The good news is that we are right in the middle of spring, which has to be the best season of the year. The bad news is that spring is the time of year when we traditionally clean our houses super good and tackle a bunch of maintenance tasks.
It is already late in the season, so it is in your best interest to hop to it and get your cleaning and maintenance duties done before summer arrives. Summer greets you with the hot sun beating down on your back as you mow the lawn.
Hage Energy, Your HVAC service in Houston, offers this handy checklist of what needs to be done around your house.
Spring is the perfect time of year to thoroughly inspect your deck or porch. In addition to checking the deck for broken or otherwise damaged railings, make sure your patio furniture is in decent condition and not falling apart.
It might even be time to refinish your deck if it has been neglected or hasn’t aged well.
Check all of your exterior doors and screens for damage that may have occurred over the winter. Bring a set of tools along so you can tighten up loose hinges and replace any hardware that is damaged, missing or broken.
If your doors are looking faded, a coat of paint will brighten things up.
While you are at it, check around the doors and around the windows for any air leaks. You don’t want to pay for keeping the backyard cool.
If the caulking is old or cracking, you need to reapply the sealant.
The weather is perfect this time of year. Which makes it the ideal time to rent a power washer and spray down the siding on your house. This not only spiffs up the look of your house, but it also eliminates mold, which you don’t want growing on your siding.
While you are at it, inspect the wood surfaces around your house for peeling paint or other damage.
Check the foundation, floors and walls inside and outside for any cracking or other damage. If you catch foundation damage in the early stages, the repairs will be a lot easier, quicker and less expensive than if you ignore it and let it get worse.
Spring is the right time of year to inspect your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and replace the batteries as needed. If your smoke or carbon monoxide detectors are ten years old or older, they should be replaced.
Inspect the Roof
It is that time of year when you should be breaking out the ladder and inspecting your roof. You never know what sort of damage could have happened over the winter.
Check shingles for curls, breaks or other damage and make sure you take a good look at your flashing.
Since you are on the roof anyway, you might as well clean out the gutters.
And since you will be running your air conditioner soon, now is a good time to call Hage Energy for an HVAC inspection. Call now.
